Thousands of Moroccan Students Face Expulsion Over Poor Academic Performance

In Morocco, nearly 4,000 schoolchildren and students will leave the school system in the Marrakech-Safi region at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. The cause: dysfunctions related to school learning.
A school year that ends on a bitter note for many students. In total, 3,866 students under the age of 16 will be forced to leave the school system in the Marrakech-Safi region for poor results, reports Al Massae. A striking case: 117 students out of an enrollment of 177 in a school are failed. In addition to the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) of Marrakech-Safi, other regions of Morocco are facing these problems.
The system followed in the calculation of overall averages and repetition has put these students in difficulty. Other dysfunctions: the pedagogical system put in place during and after the health crisis, strikes, lack of basic educational infrastructure and lack of reception and guidance structures. The students pay a heavy price for this.
These problems could have been resolved, as the Minister of National Education, Saaïd Amzazi had raised dysfunctions during a visit to the Marrakech-Safi region. Dysfunctions that have not been corrected. The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) had also reported the same problems, but nothing has been done since.
