Morocco's Iconic Legzira Beach to Undergo Restoration Amid Erosion Concerns

Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Morocco, but unfortunately threatened by the ocean, the mythical Legzira beach will undergo a little facelift.

The mythical Legzira Beach, which is part of one of the wonders of the Kingdom, is often ranked by tourism and travel professionals in the list of the best places to visit in the world, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc. It is famous for its vertiginous cliffs. It also represents a major tourist site in the province of Sidi Ifni and the Guelmim-Oued Noun region.

Concerned to secure this coastline, the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water has recently launched a study on the stability in wave channel of the coastal protection structures. According to the Ministry of Transport, the objective is to verify the hydraulic stability of the sections of the protection and reinforcement structures.

This study will take into account the realization of 3 typical profiles of the protection structure, namely the calculation of the crest level of the structures as a function of the overtopping, the elements of the armor as well as the foundation of each structure. In detail, these tests should be carried out over three periods taking into account three water levels. To carry out this study, a total execution time of two months is necessary.

This tourist marvel, an isolated bay with a vast sandy beach, arches reaching the sea is visible on the road to Mirleft, 150 km from Agadir and precisely 11 km from Sidi Ifni. The Legzira beach extends over nearly eight kilometers in length and delights tourists who come from far away to practice water sports. To date, it remains the favorite destination of travelers in search of change of scenery and exceptional sunsets.
