Morocco’s Housing Aid Program Sees Strong Interest from Expatriates

Nearly a quarter of potential beneficiaries of housing aid are Moroccans residing abroad (MRE). Registrations started on January 1.
Registrations to receive housing aid continue in Morocco. At noon on Friday, the number of registered individuals in the twelve regions of the kingdom stood at 7,961, according to the Ministry of Housing. 24% of the registrants are Moroccans residing abroad (MRE). 68% of the requests concern aid for the acquisition of properties under 300,000 dirhams, while the remaining 32% concern properties between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams. After this step, the registrants will receive a response from the department of Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri within 7 days, informing them of their eligibility or not for the program.
Launched by King Mohammed VI last October, the new housing aid program aims to renew the approach to home ownership, by supplementing household purchasing power through direct financial assistance to buyers. The amount of direct aid to buyers is set at 100,000 dirhams for the acquisition of a property whose selling price is less than or equal to 300,000 dirhams including tax. The state will cover one third of the value of the property. For the acquisition of a property priced between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams including tax, the proposed aid will be 70,000 dirhams. Only Moroccans residing in Morocco or abroad, who are not property owners in Morocco and who have never benefited from housing aid, will be the beneficiaries of the aid.
