Morocco Heat Wave: Atlantic Coast Swimming Ban Alert
An intense heat wave and violent winds are hitting Morocco. With temperatures approaching 44°C, authorities ban swimming on almost the entire Atlantic coastline for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The thermometer is rising sharply at the beginning of June. According to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), temperatures are reaching record highs, ranging between 40 and 44 degrees in the southern and southeastern regions. Interior areas are experiencing maximum temperatures of 35 to 40 degrees. Only coastal regions are spared from this scorching heat thanks to the sea breeze, maintaining a moderate climate. This new episode extends the trend from May, already marked by successive heat waves under orange alert.

This stifling weather is accompanied by strong winds that severely deteriorate sea conditions. Authorities have therefore drastically restricted access to the water on the western coast. In the south, the danger is considered extreme: the beaches of Mirleft, El Ouatia and Tarfaya are flying the black flag, meaning a total swimming ban. Further north, the coasts of Agadir, Essaouira and Casablanca are placed under red flag, while only the northern coastline maintains its yellow flags.

The sky is also expected to be unstable in certain regions. Storms and localized showers are expected on the High Atlas ridges. In interior and southern areas, violent gusts could raise dust clouds. Moreover, the mercury is not expected to drop soon, as forecasts announce a new heat peak in the north and center of the country as the weekend approaches.
