Morocco’s Hakimi Welcomes Mazraoui’s Return, Optimistic for World Cup Chances

Achraf Hakimi speaks out for the first time on the discontent between Vahid Halilhodzic and certain Moroccan players. In an interview with the Qatari channel Al Kass, the Parisian has discussed the Halilhodzic-Mazraoui reconciliation, Morocco’s chances at the 2022 World Cup, and many other topics.
The Moroccan international welcomes the news of the reconciliation between Vahid Halilhodzic, the national coach, and Noussair Mazraoui, the now former right-back of Ajax Amsterdam. He explains that sometimes difficulties can arise, but the important thing is to find a way out.
"These are things that happen in the national team. It is the national coach who is in charge and the door of the Lions is always open to the best available elements. Honestly, this news delights me, because it is a good thing for us who wish to raise the national flag as high as possible," launches the defender.
During his intervention, the right-back returned to the participation of the Atlas Lions in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. He especially expressed his regrets after an elimination in the quarter-finals against Egypt. "We had a great CAN 2021, but we lacked certain details. We have very good players, but for many of them it was a big first. I hope we will be up to the expectations at the World Cup and the next CAN," hopes Hakimi, optimistic.
The Moroccan player is also delighted to participate in a World Cup organized by an Arab country. "As an Arab, I am very happy to see an Arab country organize such an event. The expectations are high and the stadiums are sublime. I am very proud of it."
Regarding the Atlas Lions classified in group (F), and who will face Belgium, Croatia and Canada, he is hopeful that everything will go well for Morocco. "Anything is possible at the World Cup. We have inherited a complicated group, but we will fight with our resources. We have to do the best possible preparation."
