Morocco’s Hakimi Receives Award from Influencer in Cultural Clash at World Cup

Chilean influencer Kel Calderón was chosen to present the best player award to Achraf Hakimi after Morocco’s victory over Canada (2-1) at the World Cup in Qatar. The production asked her to cover her shoulder with a veil to respect the Muslim religion of the player.
Kel Calderón was invited by the Budweiser beer brand for a campaign during this World Cup in Qatar. In this context, she attended the Morocco-Canada match on Thursday and, after the final whistle, she was chosen to present the trophy for the best player of the match to the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi.
"It was an incredible and surreal, but spectacular experience... Budweiser always awards the best player of the match and they gave me the opportunity to present this cup. Obviously, I said yes, because it’s a unique experience in a lifetime. Hakimi was very much a gentleman, very respectful at all times," Calderón explained in an interview with Las Últimas Noticias.
Before meeting the Moroccan footballer, the production asked her a series of things to respect the player’s traditions. "It was fun... The production told me to speak to him in English, but he greeted me in Spanish, because he was born in Spain. I thought we were going to speak in English, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that he spoke Spanish very well," she specifies.
And she adds: "He is a Muslim, so it was necessary to be very respectful and pay attention to his customs, so they asked me to cover my shoulders with a scarf or a cloth". Morocco secured their ticket to the round of 16 as group F winners with 7 points. They will face Spain on Tuesday.
