Morocco: Gendarmes Jailed in Drug-Related Corruption Scandal

Two officials from the gendarmerie of Nouaceur and Deroua, as well as the wife of a drug trafficker, have been incarcerated in the Oukacha prison for corruption and blackmail.
It all started with a dispute over an amount of money offered by the wife of the trafficker to avoid the arrest of her husband. Angry, the head of the Deroua gendarmerie "incited" the lady to file a complaint against his colleague, the head of Deroua, before the Attorney General of the King at the Casablanca Court of Appeal for corruption and blackmail, reports the Arabic daily Assabah. Together, they appear before the office of the Attorney General of the King. But things would not go as they had imagined.
After reading the complaint, the senior magistrate discovers the ins and outs of this case. Moreover, the statements of the lady he questioned in private confirm his suspicions. The wife of the drug trafficker told him that she was also giving money to the head of the Deroua gendarmerie so that he would "turn a blind eye to the illegal activities of her husband."
Fearing his possible arrest, the accompanying gendarme tried to flee. He left Casablanca for Rabat. But the Attorney General of the King had in the meantime contacted the regional commander of the Royal Gendarmerie to inform him of the ins and outs of this case. The security services
