Morocco’s Football Federation Tightens Policy on Dual-National Players

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) does not intend to open any negotiations with a player or his agent before wearing the national jersey. The national football authority now wants to engage with players who wish to join the national team out of patriotism.
The President of the FRMF, Fouzi Lekjaa, has been very firm on this reform with dual nationals. To this end, he has given new guidelines for the recruitment of these players to the national team.
Addressing the coaches of the various national teams, the members of the technical and administrative staff, his advisors and especially the young talent scouts, Fouzi Lekjaa recalled that the national team cannot be the subject of any bargaining, according to sources close to the FRMF, reported by the daily Al Akhbar.
"There is no need to open negotiations with a player who does not show interest in the national team. No conditions or concessions should be accepted to convince any player to wear the Atlas Lions jersey," said the head of national football.
Continuing his instructions, the President of the FRMF hammered that his name should not be associated with such affairs. According to him, player agents have tried to negotiate for their protégés to play for Morocco, in exchange for financial benefits and favors. However, Fouzi Lekjaa thanked the players who agree to defend the colors of the national team, without expecting any financial or other benefits.
