Morocco’s Food Service Industry Seeks Recovery Plan Amid Gradual Reopening

The food service industry is gradually resuming in Morocco, after months of cessation due to the health crisis. But the assessment remains mixed, pushing professionals to demand a roadmap.
Hit hard by Covid-19, food service professionals are still torn between optimism and concern. Although limited, the reopening at reduced capacity decided by the government has not failed to give a breath of fresh air to a strategic sector for employment, however precarious it may be.
According to Les Inspirations Eco, "the easing of barrier measures has borne fruit with an increase in attendance in restaurants, fast food and cafes. An evolution that would be in an average of 15% to 25%, depending on the neighborhoods and concepts".
However, notes the newspaper, several professionals are reluctant to invest again, for lack of a sustainable roadmap in the sector. "Many are still hesitant to invest in the recovery" it indicates, adding that "some are having trouble renewing their stocks, as they still fear a step backwards after the easing of restrictions".
For better organization of the entire chain, professionals have high hopes with the new government. To this end, restaurateurs are calling on the new leaders to "put in place a roadmap allowing them to have visibility, at least for a year, before proposing a clear vision for the sector".
And to add that "if there were to be new restrictions, the new government team would have to put real support measures on the table for the professionals in the trades, who have suffered a lot from the previous restrictions, despite the support of the State".
