Morocco Foils ISIS-Linked Terror Plot, Arrests 13 Suspects Across Country

Thirteen people were arrested by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) last Thursday. Suspected of being supporters of the terrorist organization "Islamic State", the individuals were arrested during operations carried out in several cities of the country, including Casablanca, Béni Mellal, Mohammedia, Khénifra, Témara, Tiflet, Tanger, Ksar El Kébir, Rissani and Berkane.
The searches carried out in the suspects’ homes allowed the seizure of various materials and digital media, as well as written publications containing the discourses of theorists of extremist thought and tracts authorizing suicide operations and inciting violence.
According to the initial elements of the investigation, some of the arrested individuals would be involved in the preparation of subversive plans targeting vital national facilities, as well as security elements and institutions as part of "individual terrorism" operations. The accused would have identified the targets and conducted intensive research to obtain the information necessary for the manufacture of explosives.
The arrested persons were placed in custody for the purposes of the judicial investigation conducted by the BCIJ under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office.
