Morocco Flight Prices Surge as Belgian Holidaymakers Rush for Last-Minute Sun

While Belgians are flocking to sunny destinations like Morocco to spend their holidays there, they are facing a major difficulty. Usually cheaper, the prices of last-minute tickets are skyrocketing.
In total, 824,000 passengers are expected from Friday, December 23 to Sunday, January 8 inclusive at Brussels Airport. Among the most popular destinations are the Canary Islands, Spain and Morocco. "We naturally think of the Canary Islands, which are always popular," explains Nathalie Piérard, spokesperson for Brussels Airport. There is also Spain, Morocco, Malta or Egypt: all destinations where you can find sun all year round."

The only problem is that those who opt for "last minute" flights have to pay more than before to buy the tickets. "I have a friend with whom I’m leaving for Morocco tomorrow. She booked her ticket three weeks ago, she paid 300 euros, me, I booked it 4 days ago, I paid 170 euros and currently the ticket is 390 euros," a traveler confides to RTL Info. And to add: "If we book well in advance, there are discounts, the price is cheaper. In last minute, now, these are more expensive flights and less luxurious rooms".
