Morocco Faces High Risk of COVID-19 Surge as Eid Al Adha Approaches

With the non-compliance with barrier gestures by Moroccans, the risk of a second wave of the Covid-19 health crisis in Morocco is high, if not inevitable.
According to some experts, the probability of a second wave is strong, "if citizens do not wear masks and do not respect the rules of physical distancing", especially on the occasion of the celebration of Eid Al Adha which will take place next Friday.
According to Mustapha Naji, director of the virology laboratory at the University Hassan II of Casablanca, a significant increase in contamination could be noted 15 days after the Eid Al Adha festival if the barrier gestures are not respected.
Similarly, the Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, during a joint press conference with the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, called on Moroccans to avoid gatherings and limit their movements during the celebration of Eid Al-Adha, while continuing to respect the barrier gestures, such as wearing masks, regular hand washing or disinfection.
It should be recalled that doctors, from the first hours of deconfinement, had already warned of the risk of a significant increase in the number of contaminations.
