Morocco Eyes Dijon's Mounir Chouiar for National Team Debut

Pre-selected by Vahid Halilhodzic, the Dijon player Mounir Chouiar should join the squad soon. This young Franco-Mauritanian-Moroccan talent is one of the young elements on whom the Bosnian coach is counting.

Mounir Chouiar is indeed on the pre-list of the Bosnian Halilhodzic. New faces are expected during the gathering in October. Among them is the young Franco-Mauritanian-Moroccan, the attacking midfielder of Dijon.

"He is on the extended list, we should be informed quickly about his intentions, but we would like to have him with us," said the Franco-Bosnian coach to L’équipe.

Like some of his teammates, the 20-year-old Dijon attacking midfielder will soon wear the Moroccan jersey for the first time, as part of the 2nd phase of Morocco’s friendly matches with Libya and Gabon, on October 11 and 15, in preparation for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Cameroon.

Born in France to a Moroccan mother and a Mauritanian father, Chouiar, who was trained at RC de Lens (Ligue 2), joined Dijon this summer. Eligible for the three selections, he has only played for the youth categories of the French national team (U16, U18, U19 and U20).

In addition to Chouiar, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is trying to convince a number of dual nationals to wear the Moroccan colors.

Yassine Benrahou, from Bordeaux, has opted for the Atlas Lions instead of Algeria. All of Morocco is still waiting to know the choice of Mohamed Ihattaren (PSV Eindhoven).
