Napoli Defender Kevin Malcuit Withdraws from Morocco National Team at Last Minute

Retained on the list of coach Vahid Halilhodzic, the Franco-Moroccan international Kévin Malcuit created surprise by withdrawing at the last minute. While some attribute this refusal to his desire to try the French adventure, it is learned that Malcuit’s decision is rather due to other reasons.
Expected at the current gathering of the Lions (October 7-15), Kévin Malcuit gave the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) the slip.
According to Le360, Kevin Malcuit had planned everything to make his international career with the Atlas Lions, a nationality he inherits from his mother. Since he was not entirely new and has several acquaintances in the selection, including the left-back Hamza Mendyl whom he met at Lille (2017-2018), he had made this choice, reports the same source.
Unexpectedly, the player retracted the day after the publication of the list on the grounds that he would have received death threats, as well as his family, informs the same media.
He was also the target of other hateful and violent messages via social networks, supports the same source. These threats would have already been made after his refusal to wear the national jersey in 2016 just before the 2017 CAN, and his expressed preference for the French national team.
Note that Kévin Malcuit was born in France to a French father and a Moroccan mother, and can still be called up to the French national team.
