Morocco Extends Consular Protection to Citizens in Iraq and Syria Amid Crisis

The cry for help from certain deputies as well as from families of Moroccans living in Iraq and Syria has received a favorable response from the government. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad has announced that these citizens will now benefit from consular protection.
Following the latest developments in the crisis in Iraq and Syria, some people’s representatives and some relatives have called on the government to think about protecting Moroccan nationals residing in these parts of the world. This is now a done deal. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has seized the opportunity to announce the measures taken to assist the citizens.
On its Facebook page, the ministry indeed indicated that "following the latest developments in the crisis in Iraq and Syria, and as part of the monitoring of the situation of our fellow citizens abroad, the government has deemed it appropriate to grant them consular protection".
