Morocco Considers Mission to Aid Citizens Detained in Syria and Iraq Camps

A meeting will soon bring together the parliamentary mission dedicated to Moroccans stranded and detained in Syria and Iraq. This first meeting represents a sign of hope for the families of these forgotten people.
The members of this parliamentary mission are to meet this week, reports Al Massae. The discussions will focus on an upcoming visit to these Syrian refugee camps to assess the living conditions of Moroccan women and minors imprisoned there.
For the Secretary General of the National Coordination of Moroccans Detained and Stranded in Iraq and Syria, Meryem Zabroune, the establishment of this parliamentary mission relieves the families of the detainees. In her opinion, it represents "a positive indicator of the interest that the elected representatives of the nation have in this file." "These children (from the families, editor’s note) made mistakes by joining the conflict zones. They regret it today, because they were victims of brainwashing," she specified.
This mission is chaired by the Secretary General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Abdellatif Ouahbi. As for the PJD deputy, Soulaimane Amrani, he was elected rapporteur of the said mission. According to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), Abdelhak Khiame, 280 Moroccan women and 381 Moroccan minors were detained in Iraq and Syria in 2019.
