Morocco Expands Urban Planning Inspections with New Controllers

The Ministries of the Interior and Housing want to strengthen the inspection operations carried out in the field of urban planning. New controllers will be appointed.

The Ministries of the Interior and Housing attach importance to inspection operations. In a joint circular addressed to the walis of the regions, the governor general director of the Urban Agency of Casablanca, the presidents of the local authorities, the regional inspectors of planning, urban planning and housing, as well as the directors of the Urban Agencies, they mention the proposal of controllers in the fields of urban planning and construction and the strengthening of the appointment criteria, reports the daily Aujourd’hui Le Maroc.

The appointment criteria are: to be irreproachable in terms of reputation and integrity, to hold a diploma allowing them to access scale 10 of the civil service with 4 years of seniority, i.e. a diploma of specialized technician in housing, surveying or architecture, or a diploma classified on scale 8 with 8 years of seniority.

According to the circular, it is the urban planning service of the province or prefecture that is now responsible for ensuring coordination between the different parties, under the supervision of the secretary general of the prefecture. Closer coordination with the public prosecutor’s office in terms of monitoring procedures and supporting urban planning inspectors in terms of coordination with their superiors is also planned.
