Morocco Expands English Education: Middle Schools Next in Nationwide Rollout

Little by little, the integration of English in education is spreading in Morocco. After primary school, it is now the turn of middle school, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Education for the next school year.
Only the 1st year of middle school is affected by this measure. Then it will be the turn of the 2nd year in 2025 and the 3rd year in 2026. According to the Ministry of National Education, English should, by 2027, become "the language of instruction for certain scientific and technical disciplines at the high school level".
Morocco is also working to strengthen the learning of English in universities in order to inject new dynamism into scientific research and higher education. According to the Minister of Higher Education, Abdellatif Miraoui, "three Moroccan universities have been selected to test language support programs through several platforms".
These are language support programs that will be taught 30% on site and 70% remotely. The Ministry of Higher Education has also created new subjects for the 2022-2023 school year that are taught exclusively in English, including 21 training programs in private and partner universities, ten bachelor’s degrees, seven master’s programs and one doctorate in medicine. Several Moroccan universities have also included new subjects taught in English in their programs.
