Morocco Exits Handball World Cup with Fifth Defeat, Falling to North Macedonia

The Moroccan handball team is leaving the World Handball Championship with a crushing defeat against North Macedonia. The Atlas Lions thus record their fifth defeat in this competition which they had started with high hopes.
Apart from Algeria, whom Morocco beat 28-27, the other matches resulted in defeats for the men of Noureddine Bouhaddioui. They signed their 5th and final defeat on Monday against North Macedonia. Yet by participating in this World Cup co-hosted by Sweden and Poland, the Moroccans were hoping for good results in order to make an impression as the national football team had done at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
In the group stage of the World Cup, the national team was beaten by the United States (27-28), Egypt (19-30) and Croatia (24-36). In the President’s Cup grouping the teams eliminated from the group stage, the Atlas Lions were beaten by Tunisia (25-30) and by North Macedonia. They managed to pull their chestnuts out of the fire against Algeria with a difference of only one goal.
