Morocco Aims to Replicate Football Success at Handball World Cup 2023

The Moroccan handball team, led by the two players of the French club Caen Handball, Nabil Slassi and Ryad Lakbi, is participating from January 11 to 29 in the Handball World Cup organized in Poland and Sweden. The two Lions of the Atlas hope to achieve a good run, like the footballers in Qatar.
Placed in group G, Morocco will face Croatia, the United States and Egypt in the first phase. A stage that the two Vikings hope to pass, in order to access the main round of the competition. A victory against the United States in the 1st match scheduled for Friday, January 13, is therefore essential.
Two days before Morocco’s debut, the two Caen players expressed their ambitions. "We are ready. We had a good preparation," said Nabil Slassi, who would like to ride on the historic run of the footballers in Qatar to succeed in his tournament. "The footballers had a very good run, unconsciously, it puts a little pressure on us. It’s up to us to show the best," he said.
For his part, his captain at Caen HB, Ryad Lakbi, wants to make a good start to the World Cup. "Our first match is the most important of the competition. If we beat the USA, we will pass the group stage (the top three go to the next round, ed.). We have confidence in ourselves and in our chances," he said. And to add: "We have worked on patience, on the ability to keep the ball," says the Caen Handball captain. "We will also have to count on a good defense."
