Morocco Ends Military Patrols as COVID-19 State of Emergency Eases

The vehicles and units of the Royal Armed Forces, which patrolled in the cities to ensure compliance with confinement during the state of health emergency declared since March 20, have returned to the barracks.
The units of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) deployed in recent months in the major cities of the country, after the declaration of the state of health emergency, have returned to their barracks.
Similarly, the FAR vehicles that patrolled the cities and densely populated neighborhoods to ensure compliance with the previous containment measures have disappeared from the streets.
In a joint statement, the Moroccan ministries of the Interior and Health announced several support measures as well as the reopening of several parks and entertainment venues at 50% of their capacity.
On Friday morning, part of the highway between Casablanca and Benguerir (which includes the country’s largest military base) was closed to allow the passage of the military vehicle convoy to the base, reports the daily Assabah.
Morocco has recorded 15,542 positive COVID-19 cases to date, including 12,065 recoveries and 245 deaths.
