Morocco Emerges as Top Travel Destination for Spanish Tourists, Mobile Data Shows

Morocco is among the preferred destinations of residents of Cadiz during the month of April 2022, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The Institute obtained this information from the three mobile phone operators in Spain, based on the geolocation of travelers’ mobile phones. According to these data, Morocco is one of the highly sought-after destinations for residents of Cadiz, just like Portugal, France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands in Europe and the United States to a lesser extent, reports La Voz de Cadiz.

However, these data suffer from relevance in the sense that the telephone operators consider as a traveler any Spanish resident whose mobile phone has been located abroad. Yet, the same person may travel with two or more phones and be counted twice or more. Moreover, a person could keep their phone out of the area during their trip to use a SIM card from the destination country.
Furthermore, the information provided by the mobile phone operators is not processed to allow individual identification of phone users.
