Morocco Emerges as Top Potato Producer in North Africa, Boosts Export Potential

Morocco ranks 3rd among the major potato producers in the Maghreb behind Algeria and Egypt. The kingdom is able to increase its export sales.
In Africa, potato cultivation has reached 20 million tons of production. With two million tons, Morocco is the third largest potato producing country in the Maghreb, ahead of Tunisia (0.4 million tons) and behind Algeria (5 million tons) and Egypt (5 million tons). The latter two are the largest potato producers on the African continent.
In 2020, the main potato exporters are France (3.5 million tons), Germany (1.9 Mt), the Netherlands (1.8 Mt), Belgium (1 Mt) and Egypt (0.7 Mt).
Globally, China, India and the United States are leaders in the legume market.
