Morocco Resumes Onion and Potato Exports to West Africa After COVID-19 Pause

Moroccan exporters can export onions and potatoes to West African countries. Suspended in the meantime due to covid-19 and fear of shortages, exports have resumed.
Potato and onion exporters in the kingdom can breathe a sigh of relief. And for good reason, the resumption of exports to the West African market, more precisely in the border area of Guerguerat.
The newspaper Les Inspirations Éco specifies that the national market’s needs in onions are largely covered this year. It mentions a forecast of 520,000 tons for an available production of 900,000 tons made up of green onions. The same goes for potatoes, whose current stock and projected production for the rest of the year are estimated at more than two million tons. The shortage situation of the past campaign will not be recorded.
To ensure a good resumption of exports, a new station has been set up for Moroccan truck drivers by the Mauritanian authorities. It is located north of Nouakchott, on the road to Nouadhibou and is intended for the unloading of goods for the Mauritanian market. This will prevent the overflow of the Nouakchott fruit and vegetable market.
The creation of the station dedicated to Moroccan truck drivers is part of the fight against covid-19. It aims to create good conditions for the supply of the local market with goods and food, said the Mauritanian Ministry of Commerce and Tourism.
