Morocco Edges Bahrain in Tense Friendly, Preps for Africa Cup

The Moroccan national team played a friendly match on Thursday in Rabat to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations. Against a very defensive Bahrain team, the Atlas Lions struggled for a long time to find the breakthrough, despite almost total domination.

Facing Bahrain at the Moulay Abdellah complex, Walid Regragui’s men monopolized the ball from the start. However, this domination remained sterile for most of the match. The Moroccan attackers lacked precision in the final gesture, running into a well-organized Bahraini defensive block and the opposing goalkeeper.

While the match, played in front of a moderate crowd due to calls for a boycott, was heading for a draw, Morocco finally found the solution at the end of the game. It was defender Jawad El Yamiq who gave the victory to his team with a header, finally concretizing the Moroccan superiority.

This difficult victory (1-0) allows Morocco to continue its preparation for the 2025 CAN. Despite the lack of offensive efficiency, the coach will have been able to test several players, notably by bringing in Youssef En-Nesyri and Hamza Igamane in the second half, against an opponent who respected his defensive game plan.
