A superb goal, a missed penalty: Morocco beats Mozambique (1-0) in Tangier
The Moroccan national football team continued its preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a victory. The Atlas Lions won this Friday, November 14, against Mozambique by the smallest of margins (1-0), in a friendly match played on the pitch of the Grand Stade de Tanger.
Walid Regragui’s men quickly took the lead in this match. As early as the 7th minute, midfielder Azzedine Ounahi opened the scoring with a powerful shot that left the Mozambican goalkeeper no chance. Despite almost constant domination thereafter, the Moroccans failed to increase the score, showing haste and lack of concentration in the final gesture. The clearest opportunity to widen the gap came in the second half, but Ayoub El Kaabi missed a penalty, his shot hitting the crossbar.
Sterile domination against a harmless opponent
While the Atlas Lions lacked efficiency, they were never really threatened defensively. The Mozambican team, relying on counterattacks, failed to be dangerous, due to numerous turnovers and a lack of precision. Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou had a quiet evening.
This victory allows Morocco to continue its series of positive results before the start of the CAN at home. The next preparation match is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, where the selection will face Uganda, still at the Grand Stade de Tanger.
