Morocco edges Algeria by just one place in new global ranking

Morocco ranks first in North Africa in the Global Attractiveness Index 2026. Ranked 84th out of 146 economies, it is just one place ahead of Algeria but remains far behind the Gulf countries.

Presented on September 4 in Cernobbio, Italy, by TEHA Group – The European House Ambrosetti, this ranking measures economies’ ability to attract and retain the resources needed for their development. The 146 countries studied represent 95% of the world’s population and 99% of global gross domestic product.

The index is based on four main pillars: openness, innovation, efficiency and resource availability.

Morocco ranks 84th worldwide, just ahead of Algeria, in 85th place. Egypt follows in 88th place, while Tunisia ranks 105th and Mauritania 131st. The kingdom thus achieves the best result among the five North African countries studied.

At the Arab level, Morocco remains clearly behind several Gulf economies. The United Arab Emirates reach 7th place worldwide, ahead of Qatar, in 26th place, and Saudi Arabia, in 27th place.

The overall ranking is led by the United States, which achieves a score of 100. China ranks second with 93.1 points, ahead of Singapore. Germany ranks fourth and France tenth.
