Morocco Dominates Arab Peace Index 2026 Over Algeria Tunisia

On a global scale, Morocco ranks 65th out of 163 countries, with a score of 1.887. It gains three positions compared to the previous edition, although the improvement in its score remains limited to 0.001 point. In this index, a low score reflects a higher level of peace.

According to the Global Peace Index 2026, published by the Institute for Economics & Peace, Qatar dominates the regional ranking with a 31st place worldwide, ahead of Kuwait, 49th, and Oman, 60th. Morocco comes next, ahead of Jordan, 68th, and the United Arab Emirates, 73rd.

The Kingdom also significantly outpaces the other Maghreb countries included. Tunisia ranks 77th worldwide, Algeria 91st and Libya 125th. Egypt ranks 113th, while Saudi Arabia appears at 95th.

This position comes in a region that remains the least peaceful in the world. The average level of peace in the Middle East and North Africa deteriorated by 0.5% in one year: eleven countries declined, eight improved and one remained stable. The report notes, however, that the effects of the war in Iran triggered in 2026 are still only partially integrated.

The ranking does not only measure crime or security felt in daily life. It is based on 23 indicators covering internal safety, ongoing conflicts and the degree of militarization. Morocco’s fourth Arab position therefore reflects its overall level of peace according to all these criteria.
