Morocco’s Drug Trade Evolves: Traffickers Recruit Women and Disabled Individuals

The new drug barons, based in the northern regions of Morocco, are full of ingenuity. Unlike the old ones, they recruit beautiful women and people with disabilities to distribute their goods.
After the dismantling of the old drug trafficking networks or the death of the old drug barons, new drug traffickers reign supreme in the northern regions of the Kingdom, reports the newspaper Assabah.
They have adopted a strategy that breaks with the old practices of drug distribution in this part of Morocco.
They are indeed recruiting people with disabilities or beautiful women, who ensure the distribution of the merchandise. This strategy allows them not to arouse the slightest suspicion about this illegal activity.
Mohamed*, a blind man from Bab Berred, is one of the recruits of these new drug barons. He regularly transports significant quantities of cannabis to Rabat, Marrakech and Tangier, according to the same source.
Sanaa, a 22-year-old student, who is also involved in drug distribution, says: "I transport drugs from Tangier to Tetouan, or from Tangier to Nador, and I earn between 5,000 and 10,000 dirhams per trip depending on the quantity, which can reach 5 kilograms".
