Morocco Denies Rumors of Regional Redistricting Plans, Interior Ministry Official Says

A reduction in the number of regions in Morocco would be in the process of being prepared, according to information published on social networks and some media. A Fake news, responds an authorized voice at the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the information relayed on Facebook and taken up by some media, Abdelouafi Laftit would have made a trip to Agadir accompanied by a high-level delegation in order to discuss a new regional division project with the walis and governors. "There is currently no consultation to reduce the number of regions in the Kingdom or to modify the current administrative division," stresses TelQuel reporting the statements of an official from the ministry.
He points out that this information "constitutes false allegations that have no basis in reality." He adds that currently the ministry has in no way addressed the issue of going from 12 regions to 9 as these rumors suggest.
