Moroccan Police Debunk Viral Kidnapping Hoax in Marrakech

Information and audio recordings with supporting images have been circulated on social media about an alleged kidnapping that would have gone wrong in Marrakech. Here is the truth from the false.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) states that this is fake news and that no child has been kidnapped, amputated and then abandoned in the street in Marrakech. For the police, it is a completely fabricated montage by people driven by the desire to sow panic among the population.
After verification, the facts reported in the audio recordings never took place in Marrakech or elsewhere in Morocco, the DGSN specifies, according to which the same false information had already been published in September 2022. Investigations are currently underway to identify the people involved so that they can be held accountable for their actions.
In Morocco, the spread of fake news is severely punished by law, especially if it concerns information that undermines the security and tranquility of citizens. The sanction targets not only the people behind these false information, but also those who contribute to their dissemination.
