Morocco Delays Annual Diaspora Return Operation, Adds COVID-19 Measures for Travelers

Initially scheduled to start on June 5, the reception operation for MREs has been delayed this year due to the coronavirus epidemic. The exact start date is not yet known, but it should likely begin in early July.

Strict measures have been enacted for arrivals at airports. This will also be the case for MREs wishing to travel by boat this year. In addition to a mandatory covid-19 test, which can also be performed once in Morocco, many measures must be observed before departure and especially on the boat. These measures, unfortunately, could discourage many people.

Nevertheless, the Marhaba operation will be organized this year with the provision of 23 boats. Here is the complete list and their number:

• Tanger-Med-Algeciras: 10 boats
• Tanger-Med-Motril (Granada region): 1 boat
• Tanger-Ville - Tarifa (4 boats)
• Nador-Almeria: 2 boats:
• Nador-Motril: 1 boat
• Al Hoceima-Motril: 1 boat
• Tanger_med- Barcelona-Savona (Italy): 1 boat
• Tanger_med- Barcelona-Genoa: 3 boats
• Tanger_med- Barcelona-Sète: 3 boats
• Nador-Sète: 1 boat
• Nador-Barcelona: 1 boat

Note that this year, Morocco does not plan to organize the Marhaba operation at the level of Ceuta and Melilla. A way to asphyxiate the two autonomous cities.
