Morocco Cancels Annual Diaspora Welcome Program Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The epidemiological situation in Morocco has not yet improved. Faced with this equation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, has canceled the Marhaba 2020 operation dedicated to welcoming Moroccans residing abroad.
MREs will not be able to return to the country this summer. According to the head of Moroccan diplomacy, the Marhaba operation is a concept that needs to be prepared from April and requires coordination with several countries. In his view, it is not just a passage but an animation with cultural and entertainment activities. "It is obvious and natural that the Marhaba operation, as we know it with its preparation and programming, will not take place," he announced to the parliamentarians.
As for the return of MREs to Morocco during the summer period, it is maintained under well-defined conditions. Among these conditions are the opening of Moroccan land and air borders; the necessary health measures that will be adopted by the transit countries, the international and national health situation and the health protocol that Morocco will put in place for anyone entering the kingdom.
For the minister, the protocol is clear: "On arrival, there must be a minimum 9-day quarantine and 2 PCR tests. If this protocol is maintained, it will have an impact on the return [of MREs, ed.]" he added.
