Morocco Customs Rules Jet-Skis Pleasure Boats Temporary Admission

As summer returns approach, many MREs are preparing their trip to Morocco with their vehicle. The Moroccan Customs Administration guide reminds us that the temporary admission regime concerns not only tourist cars or light commercial vehicles.

In addition to a motor vehicle, temporary admission can also be granted for equipment of a different nature. The guide notably mentions the moped, the quad, the jet-ski and also the pleasure boat.

Up to 180 days for a car

For a tourist car or light commercial vehicle, the temporary admission regime is granted for a period of 180 days. This timeframe can be used continuously or in installments during the calendar year.

It cannot be extended freely. Upon expiration of the granted period, the owner must regularize the customs situation of the vehicle, either by re-export or by customs clearance under the conditions provided.

Pleasure boats have a special regime

Pleasure boats benefit from a different rule when they are intended to stay in a Moroccan marina. The guide specifies that they can be admitted temporarily for a period of 18 months.

This duration applies to maritime means of transport for private use belonging to persons with their habitual residence abroad. The timeframe is granted by the customs service at the level of the marina concerned.

Jet-skis and similar equipment: watch out for the timeframe

Other water sports equipment, such as jet-skis and similar equipment, do not benefit from this 18-month period. They remain subject to a temporary admission period of six months.

The same principle applies to boats that do not dock in a marina. They also continue to fall under the six-month period provided by customs.

For MREs considering traveling to Morocco with a boat, jet-ski, quad or other leisure equipment, the rule to remember is therefore simple: not everything falls under the same regime. Before departure, it is advisable to check the applicable timeframe for each piece of equipment to avoid an unpleasant surprise when leaving the territory or regularizing customs matters.
