Morocco Eases Customs Rules for Foreign-Owned Pleasure Boats

The Moroccan customs has implemented a temporary admission regime for private maritime transport, particularly pleasure boats, belonging to people residing abroad.
Under this regime, pleasure boat owners are allowed to stay in a Moroccan marina for a maximum of 18 months, according to the latest 2023 guide from Moroccan customs.
The authorization is issued by the customs service at the marina where they dock. This regime is specifically reserved for pleasure boats imported by people whose habitual residence is abroad. It is important to note that the temporary admission of these pleasure boats is regulated by a temporary admission document.
However, the regime is not the same for all water sports vehicles. For example, jet skis and similar craft, as well as boats that do not dock in a marina, continue to benefit from a shorter temporary admission period, set at 6 months.
Upon expiration of the granted temporary admission deadlines, owners must regularize the customs status of their boat or vehicle. They can do this either by re-exporting the vehicle, or by clearing it through customs under the regulatory conditions, which includes the payment of applicable duties and taxes. Failure to comply with these obligations may result in a fine.
