Morocco Cracks Down on Jet Skis Amid Drug Trafficking Concerns

After go-fast boats, helicopters and drones, drug traffickers are using a new weapon: the jet ski. People smugglers of illegal immigrants to the Spanish coasts also use them. Based on this observation, the forces of the Royal Gendarmerie and the National Security in the city of Tangier have been instructed to strengthen controls on jet skis, especially during this summer period when these devices are numerous on the northern coasts of Morocco.
A large-scale operation to identify jet skis has been carried out by the police forces in recent days, with the objective: to ensure that certain individuals wanted by the justice system for their involvement in drug trafficking are not among the users of these devices for criminal purposes and to verify the jet skis that trucks or cars are transporting, as well as the identity of their owners. They therefore seized all jet skis whose documents are not in order, both on the beaches and on the road axes where they are towed or transported by cars or trucks, reports Al Akhbar.
The information that jet skis have recently become the most used means by drug traffickers due to their speed has been verified. During their hearing before the court, several people arrested as part of the fight against drug trafficking from the northern coasts of Morocco admitted to having not only carried out many drug trafficking operations to Europe with jet skis, but also to having managed to pass themselves off as sportsmen or simple summer vacationers.
