Morocco Cracks Down on Attacks Against Healthcare Workers, Prosecutors Ordered to Prioritize Cases

The public prosecutor’s office has instructed the presidents of the courts to give special treatment to complaints concerning attacks on health professionals.

The fight against the phenomenon of verbal and physical aggression against health professionals is a major concern for the authorities. In a note addressed to the King’s Prosecutors near the Courts of First Instance and the Courts of Appeal, the President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, El Hassan Daki, indicated that the phenomenon is increasingly widespread in public health facilities, specifying that these acts constitute serious offenses that can be punished under Article 263 of the Penal Code.

To this end, the Attorney General of the King at the Court of Cassation has called on the presidents of the courts to strictly apply the legal provisions. He has thus urged them to ensure that the judicial police effectively and quickly handle the complaints filed by caregivers who have been the victims of an assault and that judicial investigations are launched.

These instructions are part of the protection of caregivers, but also of citizens and their interests, and aim to ensure the continuity of the proper functioning of public institutions.
