Morocco Court Sentences Couple to 4 Years for Adultery, Sparking Legal Debate

A married woman and her lover each received a 4-year prison sentence, accompanied by a fine of 30,000 dirhams in favor of the husband. They were prosecuted by the Court of First Instance of El Jadida for adultery.
During the trial in absentia, marked by the absence of the wife, the Court ordered the arrest of the lover, a vegetable merchant, who was on provisional release, reports Hibapress.
Two weeks ago, the husband, suspecting his wife of infidelity, had set a trap for her by making her believe that he was leaving on a business trip.
The two lovers had then been caught in the act of adultery at the couple’s home. The incident quickly turned into a brawl before the police intervened to take the unfaithful couple to the police station.
