Morocco Considers Unified License Plates to Streamline International Travel

Deputy Rachid Hammouni, president of the Progress and Socialism group in the House of Representatives, proposes to adopt a unified format for vehicle license plates in Morocco, valid for use both on national territory and abroad.
Deputy Rachid Hammouni, president of the Progress and Socialism group in the House of Representatives, has questioned the Minister of Transport and Logistics about the obligation for Moroccan vehicles traveling abroad to be equipped with license plates bearing Latin characters equivalent to the Arabic letters appearing on the national registration, with an indication of the country of origin (MA), in accordance with Article 28 of Ministerial Order 2711-10. In a written question, he indicated that this ministerial order, as a regulatory text, can be modified with flexibility.
Thus, the PPS elected official has called on the ministry to adopt a unified format for license plates, ensuring consistency between the data appearing on the registration certificate and that displayed on the metal plate, and avoiding citizens the formalities of changing it for each trip abroad. He also asked the ministry to reveal the measures it intends to take to overcome this problem and facilitate the movement of citizens without additional costs or unjustified obstacles.
