Diplomatic Immunity No Shield: New Road Safety Crackdown Targets Foreign Vehicles and Motorcycles

The NARSA has announced that diplomatic vehicles are now subject to sanctions in case of an infraction. This measure is accompanied by effective control of vehicles registered abroad, particularly for infractions detected by fixed speed cameras.

The monitoring committee, attached to the permanent road safety committee, has ordered the effective control of infractions committed by vehicles bearing diplomatic registration plates, in accordance with the framework note issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Regarding foreign vehicles, the committee has launched the control of infractions detected by fixed speed cameras. A new system has also been deployed to control the maximum speed of motorized two-wheelers and verify compliance with their technical characteristics using a device called a "speedometer".

These measures come as the July 2025 statistics show a 5.2% decrease in the number of fatalities and a 3.2% decrease in the number of victims in road traffic accidents.

Roads outside urban areas show positive results with a 9.5% decrease in the number of accidents, a 24.8% decrease in the number of fatalities, and a 16.6% decrease in the total number of victims. Fatalities among users of two- and three-wheeled motorcycles have dropped by 32%.
