Morocco Considers Debt Relief for Tourist Transport Sector Amid Pandemic Recovery

The National Federation of Tourist Transport has sent the government a request to take over the bank debt contracted by professionals in the sector. The idea is to give them a breather while they recover from the losses suffered due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the letter of request sent to the government, "this takeover will be followed by a subsequent rescheduling of the debts without interest". The Federation also wrote to the Director General of the Professional Group of Moroccan Banks and the President of the Professional Association of Financing Companies, informing them of the steps taken to have their debts taken over by the supervisory authority.

According to the Federation, their inability to pay their contracted loans on time has created a crisis of confidence between tourist transport companies and credit institutions. It is therefore to restore this relationship that this request has been sent to the government. "The federation’s proposal was well received by the Ministry of Transport. We agreed to develop this request in order to present it to the government before the finalization of the 2023 Finance Bill," the federation notes in its letter.

The Federation is also awaiting from the Director General of the GPBM and the President of the APSF the data relating to the overall volume of the debt of the tourist transport sector, in order to facilitate the task for the government.
