Morocco’s Tourist Transport Sector Struggles: 20% of Companies Face Closure Post-COVID

Tourist transport companies have not been able to regain good financial health after the health crisis related to Covid-19 that hit the sector hard. As a result, nearly 20% of them are being forced to close down.
Government support has not been enough to straighten out the tourist transport companies in difficulty, after the emergence of Covid-19. "We were the last to benefit from the government support measures a year ago. Except that in the meantime, we have not really been able to get our heads above water," declares Mohamed Bamansour, secretary general of the National Federation of Tourist Transporters (FNTT), deploring that inflation and the rise in fuel prices have strongly impacted their activities.
"In addition, the financing bodies have not spared us. Some have not respected their promises included in the agreement established with the government," he adds. Without visibility for the coming months, 15 to 20% of tourist transport companies will close their doors at the beginning of this year, says the official. Among them, some companies that are unable to repay their loans and pay social contributions and other taxes.
