Morocco Coach Regragui Scouts Brahim Diaz at Real Madrid Match Amid National Team Pursuit

Morocco is still trying to convince Brahim Diaz to join the Atlas Lions. The coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, was spotted in the stands of the Santiago Bernabéu during the Real Madrid-Real Sociedad match.

The Moroccan coach was on a mission to try to convince the Real Madrid midfielder to wear the Moroccan jersey, reports AS. The 24-year-old player is awaiting a call-up to the Spanish national team that is slow in coming. Luis de la Fuente did not call him up for the Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Georgia and Cyprus scheduled for September. Meanwhile, the Moroccan federation is multiplying initiatives to convince Diaz to join the Atlas Lions.

Walid Regragui followed Brahim Diaz’s performance in this duel against Real Sociedad (2-1). The midfielder came on in the 87th minute and provided an assist to Jude Bellingham who could have scored, if it weren’t for Remiro’s fabulous save. "He has improved a lot, he is much more powerful and has grown physically," Ancelotti said about Diaz, who has only played 16 minutes in three games.

"The coach tells me to take advantage of every minute and try to revolutionize the game. And that’s what I did," the player had said after the match against Getafe where he had particularly shone. Brahim Diaz, who has already played in the lower categories of Spain under Luis de la Fuente, is hoping for a future call-up to the national team for the matches against Scotland (October 12) and Norway (October 15).

For its part, Morocco is determined to have the player. "Obviously, we are interested in Brahim. However, these cases involve many aspects and they are not easy to resolve. One of them is the Africa Cup of Nations in January, which does not help us," Regragui said on August 31. The coach wants to be able to count on the young Madrid striker for the next Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire.
