Morocco’s New Car Sales Surge 9% in 2023, Dacia Leads Market

The automotive market continues its good momentum this year. As of the end of last November, new car sales in Morocco reached 156,920 units, an increase of 8.97% compared to the same period in 2019. The Dacia and Dongfeng Sokon brands still dominate the market in each category.
This is revealed by the monthly statistics of the Association of Automobile Importers in Morocco (AIVAM) concerning the sector. Thus, for the month of November, the number of new registrations stood at 12,953 units, a decrease of 2.67% compared to the same month in 2019.
According to AIVAM, the Dacia brand still dominates passenger car (PC) sales, with a market share of 28.19% (38,780 new registrations since the beginning of the year). This is an increase of 0.36%. It is followed by Renault, which sold 17,749 new units (market share of 12.9%), Hyundai (11,301 units and 8.22% market share) and Peugeot (10,368 vehicles and market share of 7.54%).
As for new registrations, the number stood at 137,544 units, an increase of 7.44%. That of light commercial vehicles (LCV) stood at 19,376 units, up 21.32%, the same source said.
Regarding light commercial vehicles (LCV), it is Dongfeng Sokon (DFSK) that dominates the market. This brand has increased its sales by 138.39% to 3,800 units, while Renault and Dacia have recorded 2,813 and 1,970 new registrations respectively. As for the Mahindra brand, it has increased its sales by 500% to 132 units.
In the premium car category, Audi sold 3,287 units at the end of November 2021, a market share of 2.39%, followed by BMW (3,037 vehicles and a 2.21% share) and Mercedes (2,364 units and a 1.72% share). In addition, sales of the German brand Porsche increased by 93.23% to 257 vehicles. On the other hand, those of Jaguar fell by 53.93% to only 123 units.
