Morocco Captain Benatia Supports Departing Coach Renard After Resignation

The divorce between Hervé Renard and the "Atlas Lions" is not without an impact on the morale of certain players, including Mehdi Benatia. In a message, which looks like a comforting one, posted on his Facebook page, the Captain of the Moroccan national team expresses his support for the French coach.

As a good captain, Mehdi Benatia sets the tone for what will certainly be a series of testimonials and tributes to the one some affectionately call "the man in the white shirt".

It should be recalled that on Sunday, July 21, 2019, on his social networks, Hervé Renard announced his resignation as head of the "Atlas Lions". Without ever mentioning the word "resignation" in his message, Renard nevertheless announced: "It is time for me to close this long and beautiful chapter of my life, not without a certain emotion and sadness, but it is an inevitable decision taken well before the 2019 CAN".

These are expressions that shed light on the full difficulty experienced by the coach before making his decision. "Morocco will remain a country with which I have lived incredible emotions and with which I will have remained linked the longest continuously to date," Renard also said in the same press release that went viral on social media.

In reaction to the decision of his now former coach, Mehdi Benatia provides comfort but also support to Renard. "Coach, simply to thank you for these 3 years spent together. Not everything was easy during this period, but we achieved some of our goals. We surely deserved better and could have done better," wrote Mehdi Benatia on his Facebook page.

And the Captain of the "Atlas Lions" added: "Concerning you, I will only remember the positive, an upright man with values, a Gentleman! For the future, I wish you the best and all the best in your projects. I have no doubt that we will have the opportunity to meet again off the field and it will always be with great pleasure. Thank you Coach".
