Morocco Cabinet Reshuffle: Ministers’ Salaries and Perks Revealed Ahead of October Deadline

The announcement of the new Government should be made before October 10, the date of the opening of the fall legislative session. The Treasury will have to make financial resources available to support this ministerial reshuffle.

The Moroccan government will see some departures, but also some arrivals, which will result in compensation on both sides.

According to the daily Assabah, in addition to allowances of around 38,000 dirhams (housing, representation, etc.), the Head of Government receives a net salary of 32,000 dirhams and has 3 official cars.

As for the ministers, they benefit from a net salary of 26,000 dirhams, in addition to 34,000 dirhams in allowances and they have 2 official cars. Finally, the salary of the Secretaries of State is set at 20,000 dirhams, plus 30,000 dirhams in allowances. A service car is made available to them.

In addition to a nomination bonus of 20,000 dirhams and 10,000 dirhams, the Head of Government and the ministers receive departure bonuses equivalent to 10 times their salaries.

In other words, adds the daily, on their departure, a severance payment of 700,000 dirhams is paid to the Head of Government, 600,000 to the ministers, and 500,000 dirhams to the Secretaries of State.

In parallel, a lifelong pension is granted to former government members, ranging from 48,000 for the Prime Minister, 39,000 dirhams for the benefit of ministers and 30,000 dirhams for Secretaries of State. In the event of death, the beneficiaries continue to receive 50% of the pension.

Government members, who do not pay any contributions during their term of office, are not required to reach retirement age, 63 years, to benefit from the pension, which is unlocked immediately after leaving office.
