Morocco’s New Cabinet: Akhannouch to Unveil Government Amid Speculation on Minister Selection

Aziz Akhannouch will have to unveil his government in the coming hours. Will outgoing ministers be excluded from the new executive due to one of the appointment criteria?
In accordance with the Moroccan Constitution, King Mohammed VI will proceed to the appointment of the members of the Akhannouch government in the coming hours. The list of the new leadership team will be known after the election of the members of the second Chamber, scheduled for Tuesday, October 5, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. The appointment of ministers has been delayed due to the choice of profiles presented by the political parties members of the governing coalition (Rassemblement national des indépendants, Parti Authenticité et Modernité and Parti de l’Istiqlal).

These parties had to face a major difficulty: compliance with the appointment criteria. It is a question of proposing the names of candidates who have never had government responsibilities, of presenting women and young people at the head of the next ministries. They tried to circumvent the first criterion. Without success. "The former ministers, in particular, were categorically refused their appointment," we are informed. Consequently, some parties had to resort to certain activists of their formations who had frozen their memberships, or even sympathizers who had worked on the electoral programs, to finalize the lists of potential ministers.
