Morocco’s New Government to Be Unveiled Following Parliamentary Elections

The government of Aziz Akhannouch should be unveiled just after the elections of the 120 members of the second Chamber of Parliament scheduled for this Tuesday, October 5. The political configuration of this legislative institution will complete the electoral process.
The announcement of the new government is imminent. After the configuration of the first Chamber on the evening of the direct legislative elections of September 8, which gave the majority to the first three political parties, namely the Rassemblement national des indépendants (RNI), the Parti authenticité et modernité (PAM) and the Parti de l’Istiqlal (PI), that of the second Chamber of Parliament is becoming clearer. The elections for the renewal of the 120 members of the second Chamber of Parliament are being held this Tuesday.
These elections, which concern the great electors in the trade union colleges (20 seats), the local authorities (72 seats), the various professional chambers (20 seats) and the employers’ federation (8 seats), will complete the electoral process, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. After which, the third government of the post-constitutional reform of 2011 will be appointed and unveiled. The new executive will be known before the opening of the first session of the first legislative year of the 11th legislature, probably on Thursday, October 7. In accordance with the constitutional provisions, it is on the proposal of the Head of Government that the King Mohammed VI appoints the members of the new leadership team.
Article 47 of the Constitution provides that: "The King appoints the Head of Government from within the political party that came first in the elections of the members of the House of Representatives, and in view of their results. On the proposal of the Head of Government, he appoints the members of the Government. The King may, on his own initiative, and after consulting the Head of Government, terminate the functions of one or more members of the Government. The Head of Government may ask the King to terminate the functions of one or more members of the Government. The Head of Government may ask the King to terminate the functions of one or more members of the Government due to their individual or collective resignation. Following the resignation of the Head of Government, the King terminates the functions of the entire Government. The resigning government handles current affairs until the new government is formed."
