Morocco Plans 20 New Train Stations for 2030 World Cup Preparation

The National Railway Office (ONCF) plans to build 20 new stations for high-speed regional trains (RER) in preparation for the 2030 World Cup.

These new stations will be built in the Casablanca-Settat region (10), the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region (8) and the Marrakech-Safi region (2). This vast project is part of the preparations for the 2030 World Cup, we are informed.

In detail, seven new RER stations will be built in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region: three in the prefecture of Skhirat-Témara (Aïn Aouda, Tamesna and Aïn Atiq), one in the prefecture of Rabat (Hay Ryad district), two in the prefecture of Salé (Bouknadel and Technopolis) and one in the province of Kénitra. The old Kénitra-ville station, which was closed, will be rehabilitated.

The ONCF had launched a call for tenders for the acquisition of 168 trains, including 18 high-speed trains. The objective is to modernize part of its fleet of trains, ensure transport along the high-speed line to Marrakech, and guarantee the RER proximity service in the Casablanca and Rabat regions.

The delivery of these trains will be spread over 4 years, from 2027 to 2030. A special institution will be created to ensure the maintenance of this new equipment.
