Morocco Begins Construction on Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Extension

The project to extend the Kenitra-Marrakech High Speed Line (LGV) has entered its active phase. The National Railway Office (ONCF) has just launched the construction work on engineering structures and the restoration of communication between the Rabat Agdal and Ain Atiq stations.
At a cost of 72.7 million dirhams, these works will be carried out in the area "located between these two stations, on the Casablanca-Sidi Kacem railway line," indicates the daily Les Inspirations Eco, specifying that "the purpose of this contract is to define the conditions for the execution, acceptance and settlement of the services relating to the realization of the engineering works and the restoration of communication between Rabat Agdal and Aïn Atiq". The work should be completed within a period of ten months.
The ONCF has also launched a tender for an amount of 373 million dirhams for the realization of the civil engineering works of the section connecting the Casablanca Oasis station to the future Casa Sud station. "This section is located on the Casablanca-Sidi El Aidi line. In addition to the earthworks, the contract provides for the construction of two road bridges (Casa urban highway, national road 1) and three other railway bridges (Boulevard Fès, Boulevard El Qods and RP 3011)," the publication specifies.
"The future LGV is designed for the circulation of passenger trains at a speed of 350 km/h. The commercial speed will be 320 km/h, in particular for the Al Boraq trains. A high-performance (HP) train will be able to run on this line at a commercial speed of 220 km/h between the Sidi Ichou junction and the Rabat tunnel, then between Aïn Atiq and Zenata," recalls the daily.
